Innovative Surgical Startup BioBolt Medical Wins Sponsored Entry Into University of Arizona Center for Innovation

The University of Arizona Center for Innovation (UACI) is pleased to announce the winning startup of the UACI Sponsored Launch program fueled by R&A CPAs. Tucson-based startup BioBolt Medical, will receive one sponsored year of admission into the UACI incubation program thanks to the generous financial support of R&A CPAs. Entrance into UACI includes programming, facilities, services and expert guidance to grow a business. R&A CPAs will also provide additional consulting services. The total package value is $15,000 and it is funded by R&A CPAs. 

BioBolt Medical has developed a breakthrough technology that allows surgeons to perform procedures with greater speed, efficiency and precision. Based on this technology, BioBolt Medical is focused on developing a product that can pierce, manipulate, and fix a variety of meshes and tissues with the speed of a stapler and the strength of a suture.

UACI provides the people, programming and places needed to scale a business.  Access to UACI grants the winning startup with support through a structured 27-point program roadmap. Entrepreneurs have a direct line to UACI’s mentors and subject matter experts who guide them in turning their idea into a product. Through the incubation program, BioBolt Medical will work alongside 75 other startups in a fast-paced environment and receive specialized facilities including office and lab space plus shared meeting spaces and prototyping center.

The winning startup was selected because of their work solving a challenge for real-world problems and the desire to make a significant difference in local and global communities through innovation. The winning team will begin a twelve-month residency at UACI starting June 2023.

UACI collaborates with community organizations to provide sponsored entry into the incubator network through a competitive process.  Applications were reviewed by a panel of community champions and the winner was selected by the following panel of judges:

Sponsored Launch was created to provide more opportunities for startups to successfully launch into the marketplace, while also raising community awareness around the importance of providing support for entrepreneurs at the local level. Sponsored Launch provides a platform for organizations and municipalities to invest in small businesses while also receiving acknowledgment of their goodwill. This unique collaboration between the incubator and community elevates impact by expanding offerings and stretching resources to the community.
