Grand Opening of UACI at Biosphere 2

Please join us for the grand opening of the newest physical location of the UA Center for Innovation! UACI is launching a new business incubator outpost at Biosphere 2 to support ag-technology, climate sustainability, and renewable energy tech startups. The grand opening is set for April 12 when we officially welcome three to six startups into the new space at the Biosphere 2. Startups go through UACI's proven 27-point roadmap that takes them through a continuum of education provided by mentors, advisors, and community collaborators. Entrepreneurs will utilize various physical spaces offered by the Biosphere 2 providing them with the unique opportunity to test and demonstrate their technology in specific environments.

 

UACI Startup, uPetsia Selected for Flinn Foundation Program

Congratulations to uPetsia on one of seven Arizona-based, early-stage companies competitively selected to participate in the Flinn Foundation Bioscience Entrepreneurship Program. The co-founders worked with Tech Launch Arizona to commercialize and launch technology that harnesses a harmless bacteria strain to battle bad dog breath. The program benefits include $30,000 in funding support through a non-profit partner to the Flinn Foundation, a personalized learning plan, connections with bioscience leaders, and more!

 

Sponsored Launch Fueled by Perkins Coie LLC Winner Announced

Congratulations to CarbeniumTec on being selected as the Sponsored Launch Fueled by Perkins Coie LLP winner! CarbeniumTec is disrupting the energy storage industry with its groundbreaking metal-free Redox Flow Battery. CarbeniumTec’s technology is based on University of Arizona research and is in the process of being licensed through Tech Launch Arizona. The startup will receive one sponsored year of admission at UACI which includes venture development programming and space and will also receive a cash award of $10,000 and $5,000 for legal services. The total prize package is valued at $25,000.

 

UACI at South by Southwest Conference in Texas

The University of Arizona made its debut at the South by Southwest conference and UACI along with Tech Parks Arizona engaged with the activities in Austin, Texas! We were thrilled to be a part of the Wonder House and Entrepreneur Lounge and were surrounded by innovative changemakers. We brought the sights, sounds, colors, and smarts of the Sonoran Desert to South by Southwest, and we can't wait to do it again in 2023! UACI Startup, Emagine's Female Founder Shares VistaScan Tech on NPR

A Tucson-based, UACI startup, Emagine Solutions Technology is helping to expand ultrasound technology across the world. This tech is extremely valuable to nations that face major healthcare challenges. Listen to the Arizona Science episode on NPR to hear more about how Banner University Medical Center radiologist Berndt Schmit is using this technology developed right here in Tucson to send ultrasound images directly to a doctor or patient smartphone.

 

Casey Carrillo Appointed to SARSEF Board of Directors

Casey Carrillo has been appointed to the Board of Directors for SARSEF-Southern Arizona Research, Science, Engineering Foundation. SARSEF focuses on giving students the resources to become effective employees by teaching them how to solve real-world problems and think critically through science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) concepts. SARSEF centers its attention and effort on underrepresented student populations, like minorities and females as well as schools located in rural settings that tend to be underserved.

 

Carol Stewart and Eric Smith Featured in Tipping Point Radio Show

Associate Vice President of Tech Parks Arizona, Carol Stewart and Executive Director of UACI, Eric Smith recently spoke with Zach Yentzer during his Tipping Point radio program on AM 1030 KVOI The Voice. Stewart, Smith, and Yentzer discussed Tucson’s tech ecosystem, the startup boom, UACI's soft-landing designation, and UACI's intern support systems.

Mentor in Residence

The University of Arizona Center for Innovation (UACI) is a startup incubator network with outposts across the Southern Arizona region and a mission to grow scalable startup ventures that fuel the Arizona economy. The Mentor in Residence provides mentoring, guidance, business support, and networking to clients at the UACI, to build their startup companies. This includes assistance with opportunity assessment and team formation, introduction to external people resources, assistance with business plan development and help to create and to execute a successful go-to-market strategy.
